Hiromi Ashlin
Broome artist Hiromi Ashlin is influenced by her Japanese heritage and her new connection to the Australian landscape. Hiromi's inspiration comes from the ancient Japanese cultural and art traditions, particularly textiles and calligraphy and now blends this with her appreciation of the rich natural environment of Australia.
Using the technique of Origami and Japanese 'Washi' papers with calligraphy inks, she interprets her inspirations into contemporary new works. Often informing Hiromi's designs is the Japanese tradition of making '1000 cranes' as a symbol to wish for happiness, good luck and peace.
Each art work is infused with a specific message, indicated by its title in Japanese (translated into English).
